Opportunities in the ELME Lab @ UC Santa Barbara
The Early Life and Microbial Evolution Lab in the Earth Science Department at UC Santa Barbara is looking for people that are passionate about the science we will be doing! The research of the lab will be based on computational work and the recovery of genomic data from cool environments. The ELME lab will be specially interested in incorporating cutting-edge computational strategies to explore questions regarding the origin and evolution of microbes as well as molecular biology techniques that allow the recovery of high-quality genomes from environmental samples.
Open positions:
Postdoctoral Researcher
The ELME Lab in the Earth Science Department at UC Santa Barbara is looking for a postdoctoral researcher that is excited about the origin and evolution of microbes. Candidates are expected to have a PhD (or close to finish a PhD) in Biology, Bioinformatics, Geobiology, Computational Biology, or related fields. Experience with bioinformatics and/or phylogenomics is a plus.
Specific projects will be related but not limited to:
First review of applications will be early February, 2024. Starting salary is 65K/year and starting date can be as early as September, 2024.
Feel free to email me with your CV (make sure you include three references!) and a cover letter with a brief description of your research experience and interests. Be sure to mention how your research interests align with the lab's future goals.
Graduate Students
I will be recruiting two enthusiastic and passionate graduate students (PhD and/or MS student) to start the program in the Fall of 2025. Experience in genomics, phylogenomics, machine learning and/or molecular biology is advantageous but not mandatory. If you would like to be part of the lab, please email me with a CV and cover letter with a brief description of your research experience and interests. Be sure to mention how your research interests align with the lab's future goals. The Earth Science Department at UCSB also recruits students through the Marine Science Institute. Information about admissions can be found here.
